catering for Muslim students to balanced out public school lunch menus?

Muslim students are missing out on the enjoyment of being a kid at school, as they are unable to eat meat pies, lasagne, certain ice creams, and noodles. This is due to canteens not providing Halal food to be accessible for students. Students may feel left out and alienated because of this. Our topic is newsworthy because it’s sufficient interest or importance to the public due to the fact that there are at least 1 or 2 students at every public public school across Melbourne.
As a Muslim, of course I’d advocate bringing in Halaal menus to schools in predominantly non-Muslim areas. It’s always a nice option. Here are my thoughts though.
- It might not be feasible in the eyes of the caterers to change their food sources. However, I do know that a lot of Halaal meat from Australia and New Zealand is exported to places like the Middle East and even available here in North America. So, it might not be that much of a hassle.
- Every cafeteria should have a good vegetarian option. The target consumers would not just be Muslims and vegetarians, but also health conscious and simply people who just don’t want meat that day. And by having a good vegetarian selection, I don’t mean having a big selection at the expense of quality, but rather focusing on fewer but better dishes.
- Are the students so lazy as to not bring their own lunches?

If you went to Saudi Arabia, you wouldn’t have to demand a Western menu. More likely than not, they’d already have one. You wouldn’t want to demand Western food, because the local food is much better.
But, judging by this statement of yours, I get the impression you don’t even know what the dietary restrictions of Muslims are. It has nothing to do with cuisine, and everything to do with the source of the ingredients (particularly the animal and animal-based products).
