How do I make my own ceramic cookie jar?
What materials would I need, as I have a pattern and mold in mind.
You need to buy dry mix slip from a dealer and mix it as per instructions.
The liquid slip then gets poured into prepared plaster mold. When it’s dry the item is removed, at this stage it’s called Greenware. Which is very fragile. The greenware needs to have seamlines removed by gentle scraping and sanding. You need the appropiate tools for this.
Greenware is then fired in a kiln to become Bisque which is then decorated with glazes before being fired again.
The best thing to do is to take classes. You will learn all you need and they will have a kiln. I learnt at a backyard studio, they charged a set price for each class, extra on any materials used and then charged for each firing.
