Why is everything so difficult to open these days?
Seriously, it’s getting ridiculous! I have a package of Nerds candy here and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to open it! It’s the same with CDs…so much plastic on the outside, and it comes off in little strips! I could go on and on listing examples!
When I lived in Ireland they didn’t put ANY plastic on the outside of CDs. They just had the cases in the shop and you had to go up to the counter to get the CD. That makes so much more sense!
I have a canister of coffee that was approved by the arthitis foundation…it’s weird to me that they even have to have this. Why can’t they just make EVERYTHING easier to open?

well, qt I’m a born and bred American. Lived here 23 of my 25 years. The mistrust issue is a good point though. It’s really sad, isn’t it?
I once bought a bottle of vanilla extract and cut my hand open trying to open it because of the ridges of the cap. Who’s going to steal vanilla extract?!
Seriously, have you tried to open a kid’s toy lately? I have two boys who are very fond of trucks/cars, etc. and you actually need a screw driver and wire cutters to get the @#$! toys out of the package! There are very thick, stiff things like plastic coated garbage bag ties wrapped around all four wheels that run down through the cardboard packaging and are tied VERY tightly several times, then on some toys, there’s a plastic disk on the bottom that actually has a screw in it to hold the toy in the package. To add insult to injury, sometimes the boxes are even taped/sealed shut by the manufacturer. It’s crazy!
I think they do this (esp. with CDs) so people won’t open the cases/boxes and steal them. The coffee thing is probably so it’s still vacuum sealed (meaning that it can’t be contaminated outside of the factory) so people know it’s safe to drink.
