Window Curtains : Movable Art In Your Home
There is nothing so thrilling than having to curtain out ones new home. The decision however on what type of window curtains you will have is a bit daunting. The manufacturers will tell you that vertical slats are more economical and gives you an advantage of seeing out without being seen, and the venetian people will tell you that theirs offer better protection to your furniture.
If we cast our minds back to the old days, we can visualize how the curtains used to look. Heavy, mostly dark and meters of material cascading from their rods. Today the more minimalist look is in and the less curtains you have in your home the better. This of course, is purely based on ones own personal taste.
But how on earth are you going to cover your windows which are huge, and will bankrupt you rapidly if you don’t take proper action? Here you need to first look at three common problems that face us when we dress up a window – privacy, safety and sunlight.
Privacy can be dealt with by keeping a curtain closed or by knowing when to draw a curtain at a specific time. You could make a study of when it is the most likely time that people can see into that particular window, and draw the curtains accordingly.
An exposed window also makes the house vulnerable when you think of safety. Many people have shutters installed onto their window frame to give them the best of both worlds. You can tilt the slats to be able to see out, but passers by would not be able to see in. Another option would be to buy mirror film and attach it onto the actual glass of a particular window. This one way mirror with let you see outside without anyone knowing you are standing there.
A light material can then be used to drape on either side. If you don’t fancy having wood on your windows, then why not stick a layer of film onto the glass itself. You can get the same effect without having to drill holes.
One solution is to hang dark colored window curtains, which are light in weight, but sufficiently lined with a heavy backing material. A well lined curtain will give you enough darkness to be able to sleep until the alarm wakes you up.
