What is damascus steel made of and the percentages of each material? ?
The term “damascus steel” is not a technical one and you will always get an argument as to it’s nature, origin location and composition.
The best analysis of blades considered to be Damascus steel, seem to point to about 1.5% Carbon, a trace of Vanadium (0.003%) and remainder as Iron. The Vanadium seems to be an “impurity” in the Iron ore that was used, but it did have an effect on the properties of the final steel.
