Where is the black soot on my plastics coming from?
1. It’s not mold. I live on the 2nd floor of a 3 story condo. I do not have water leaking in from my windows or doors. Since I’m not on the ground floor there is no foundation moisture. Since I’m not on the top floor I don’t have any roof leaks. I have seen a few different cases of house molds, and this is not that.
2. I have electric heat, so it’s not from a furnace, and I change my filters on the heat pump regularly.
3. I don’t use space heaters of any kind, nor do I use an air purifier.
4. I don’t burn candles.
5. I have a fireplace, but it hasn’t been used in over 7 years, and it was cleaned after the last time it was used.
So, with all that being said, where is it coming from? More importantly, how do I stop it? It collects on my plastic trash cans, my dish drainer, plastic picture frames, everything plastic. It even gets inside my refrigerator, and on my ice trays. It is driving me nuts!
No, I don’t use cooking oil. I have non-stick pans and I don’t fry foods.
Do you use a lot of cooking oil in your food preparation? It can cause similar results on some surfaces in the kitchen area.
