i need help. my room is a big mess and i dont know where to put all my clothes. i have sooo many. i have one?
dresser with 4 drawers. im a bad organizer what drawer should my undies and bras and tank tops and short sleeved shirts go in. what drawers did you put your undies and bras in and your tank tops and shirts. plz help me thanks
You need to clear out some space. Go find some big boxes or laundry baskets. Label one “keep”, one “donate”, one “store” and one “throw”.
“Keep” is for stuff you can wear and *will* wear. “Donate” is for good stuff to give to goodwill, freecycle, the church rummage sale, etc. “Store” is for things with sentimental value, but you don’t need at the moment. “Throw” is junk.
Put on some good music with lots of energy. Set a timer of 30 minutes for the first round.
Start at the dresser, and grab the nearest small object. Decide which box it goes into. Grab the next small object and decide which box…. when a box gets full, replace it with an empty one.
Toss the “throw” stuff and lug the “donate” boxes to the nearest donation site. Don’t you feel better already?
Feel like doing some more? Take that energy and keep working on the dresser until it’s entirely emptied. Then sort the stuff in the “keep” box and start putting it back. In general, stuff like underwear fits nicely and neatly if it’s rolled instead of folded. If you find some things in the “keep” box that really should be in “donate” or “throw” or “store”, don’t be afraid to move them.
Now check out the extra space in your dresser: do you need to replace some category of clothing that was worn out (I’m notorious for worn out t-shirts)? Is there something in the “store” box that you’d really like to have in your dresser, and now you do have room for it?
Work on the closet the next day, same way… keep on going till you get the whole room done.
When you get the whole room done, do two things: 1) every night before bed, pick up anything stray laying around, and put it in a box or laundry basket. Put them back where they belong at the end of the week, and make note of what you’re putting back. Do that for a few weeks and you’ll have a good idea of the sort of thing that you don’t have good storage for. Talk to your mom and figure out a better solution for those things.
And 2) Once a week, take one of those dresser drawers and do a blitz… straighten up stuff, sort stuff out. Should take about 5 minutes. When stuff is organized, there’s generally more room.
