Burn Fat While Eating BBQ

Today there are a million ways to lose the fat around your mid-section and most of them require you to cut out all of your favorite foods and starve yourself. While this may lose you a couple of pounds, you will soon be craving that BBQ and then it’s all down-hill from there. What if you could continue to eat BBQ and grill your favorite meats and still watch that belly melt away.

 

The basic premise to losing belly fat is not so much what we eat but how its cooked. I am going to explain some simple principles on how to continue to enjoy your grilled foods and still eat healthy. Keep in mind that a daily dose of exercise is always important as well as adding a good portion of vegetables to every meal.

 

Grilling allows the fat to melt out of your meat and drain away, this is what makes grilling so healthy. To help this process along, trim excess fats from meats before you grill them. If there is a little strip of fat left on your meat, simply make cuts across its surface to help the fat melt out while cooking. Leaving some fat on your meat will help maintain moisture when grilling, this will also help keep food from drying out completely.

 

Another good way to avoid the drying problem is to do a fat swap. For example, when grilling chicken breasts remove the skin and any fat you find. Then, lightly brush the breasts with extra virgin olive oil.

This will work for any meat you might want to grill. When shopping for meat, make sure you look at the fat that surrounds the meat. When selecting cuts of beef, try to pick pieces with fat marbling in the center of the steak and not around the edges.

 

Finally, keep in mind that most of our fat comes from our marinades. Marinades help keep foods moist when grilling, but can doom us in the fat category before we even start to cook. Instead of using a lot of oils in your marinades, try making marinades using vinegars. Vinegar is an excellent marinade base and has amazing flavor. The acid in the vinegar will penetrate deep into your meats and it will not cause the meats to flare up as much as oils.

 

Here is a great all purpose low fat marinade recipe:

1/4 cup unsweetened orange juice

2 Tbsp honey

1 Tbsp red wine vinegar

1/2 tsp chopped garlic

1/2 tsp fresh chopped basil

½ tsp fresh black pepper

1/4 tsp salt

You don’t have to stop grilling to lose that extra belly fat, follow some of these suggestions and continue to enjoy your favorite BBQ and grilled foods,
