No Better Method to Avoid Spoilage Than by Using Food Vacuum Sealers

Keeping the fresh food we purchase from groceries and meat shops in good condition is a perennial household concern that gets worse every year. The amount of pollution in our air is not going to decrease in the near future. On the contrary, as if the oxidizing effect of air on food were not enough, we also get chemicals, bacteria and other microbes into our raw food with the air. Sealed bags are practically useless in deterring spoilage because the air is packed in them along with the food. We need food vacuum sealers to extract the air from the bag. But besides the storage of food, vacuum sealers are useful for many other purposes.

How spoilage works and is slowed down

The cells of dead organisms gradually decompose through the action of enzymes and bacteria. There are both enzymes and bacteria that need oxygen to do their work of rotting organic cells. Food that is exposed to air will rot faster than food that is wrapped in plastic. Heat accelerates the process even more. That is the reason why people wrap their food in plastic before placing them in the fridge. Once the oxygen in the plastic is consumed, enzymes that require it stop working and aerobic bacteria die. The cold temperature also slows down decay. Therefore an even more effective way to prolong the life of food is to use food vacuum packers. Besides sealing edibles, these devices remove the air which enhances decay from within the plastic bag. In a vacuum, microorganisms die. And this further slows the deterioration of food items.

Using Food Vacuum Sealers

There are several models of vacuum packers available. In general, we can distinguish two main types. Chamber food vacuum sealers are boxed-up devices into which the plastic bag to be vacuumed and sealed is placed. In this type of vacuum packer, the air is suctioned out of the entire chamber and its contents. The other kind of food vacuum packer is called an external sealer. Instead of vacuuming a chamber, the suction device is connected with the bag itself. The action of external vacuum sealers is less subtle than that of chamber vacuum sealers – as you can imagine. That is the reason why wet food items are often difficult to seal using the external method. Water can prevent the seal from being completed successfully unless a sufficient amount of heat is applied.

Food vacuum packers have other uses

Food vacuum packers may also be used to preserve papers and chemicals from the decomposing effect of air. Additionally, vacuuming items also kills the microbes that they may contain. Removing the air from between the fibers of fabric compresses them. As a result, they will require less storage space. And then again, newly polished silver may be vacuum packed to retain their shine.

From all of the above facts, it is quite evident that food vacuum sealers are needed in every household. They prevent the decomposition of bio-degradable items like food and paper, they compress fabrics before they are stored and they may be used to protect metal wares from the discoloring effect of oxygen.
