I have cast iron pot holder from the 50s used to set hot pots on while cooking, is the paint on it leaded?
As the question itself informs, I have a cast iron pot holder, of the sort set on one’s stove top to place hot pans on while cooking. It has a few objects/people artsily designed into it which are painted various colors. The paint is in relatively poor condition, and flakes/peels.
Could the paint contain lead? Were all things from that era painted with lead paint? Is this a health hazard? Should I have it tested? How?
It is most likely lead based. But as long as its not getting in your food supply I wouldn’t worry about it.
