How can i tell if my Mickey Mouse platy is pregnant?
I have a female mickey mouse Platy and 2 red platys. Both of the red ones are males. I left on my honeymoon and came back a week later and her stomach is huge and has changed colors (kind of golden compared to the rest of her body). I do think she is pregnant because she hasnt changed in about 3 weeks. She doesnt have any protruding scales and looks very healthy.
- Her stomach will get “box shaped”
- She will hide by decor/ bottom of the tank (when close to giving birth)
- She will have a gravid spot that is red or black IN her stomach
- She won’t eat… Or she will eat, but spit the food back out
- she is breathing havily and she is having fry (babies)
99% of the time, Platys are pregnant unless they were separated M/F at birth or as soon as they were able to tell the gender of the fry. They give birth every 28-30 days. They will eat the babies and they can have 10-40ish fry… Depending on the batch.
