How do i get the German people to open up?
I have been living in Germany for nearly 5 years now. Sometimes i find that they are very cold & extra careful of anything that might even suggest a commitment – be it in friendships or in professional relationships. Everything has to be according to the book & they freak out if something is not according to the book.
Sometimes, i try to be friends with them. I try to invite them over for a meal or coffee or something but somehow, only a very small handful takes my offers…
Anything tips on how to break the ice more? Are they just like this or are they just trying (too hard) to protect themselves?

How much of their language have you honestly learnt to speak? A few words to show that you have made the effort can often be the starting point and break the ice.
