A Gas Canister Stove is Perfect for Backpacking
People who backpack and camp need to have the lightest weight equipment possible. This is because they have limited space and weight restrictions. A person who is backpacking doesn’t want to carry anything that is going to weigh them down. Carrying pack that are too heavy can slow them down and even cause them to get hurt.
But while they are out camping and backpacking they still to have a way to cook their food. They can’t depend on campfires, especially as they need to pack in all the wood that they would need. One option is to use a gas canister stove.
Canister stoves basically consist of a canister of fuel, a place for the flame and a burner to cook on. They are very light. Most of them are under 1 pound, including the fuel. They also break down and fold up very small.
Both of these things mean that they are easy to carry and east to pack. They don’t take up much space in a pack. They can be put into any little space that the backpacker has in their pack.
There are 2 kinds of fuel that a gas canister stove uses. It can use propane. Small propane tanks are available in many stores and gas stations. They make it easy to find a replacement canister. Plus, they do last for quite a long time.
The other fuel that canister stoves use is butane. This is the kind of fluid that is found in lighters. It is also easy to find, but many places have more restrictions on buying butane than they do on buying propane canisters. Some butane canisters are refillable. Like propane they can last for awhile, making them a good choice to use.
When the backpacker chooses to buy a canister stove they have many options available. They come in a range of prices making them easy for everyone to buy. The ones that are generally recommended are ones that have a windscreen on them. Those usually consist of a plate or two that can be folded up over the flame to protect it from the wind.
The screens don’t add any significant weight to the stove, but they will make it much easier to cook in windy weather. Some people have complained that the windscreens don’t work as well as they say they do. They also say that they don’t focus the flame up to the burner. They recommend using a piece of aluminum foil instead. The foil can be easily attached any of the canister stoves. The benefit of using foil is that it can easily be set to reflect the heat from the flame to the burner. It can also be used several times.
A person who is backpacking or camping needs to be able to cook their food without adding in a significant amount of weight. A gas canister stove is the perfect solution to that problem.
