Is it okay to put an stainless steel propeller on a 40 horse outboard motor?
In your experience, can a 40 horsepower outboard 4 stroke handle a stainless steel propeller? If so, what about a 4 or a 3 blade prop. Any info would be nice! Thanks
Yes it can, i`ve had an Yamaha 25 with one.
As described above a 4 blade has some more pulling power than a 3 blade but runs some slower high speeds. (more drag)
An ss prop has less flexibility and dis forming from the blades under load than an alu prop, `bcause of this an ss prop with the same pitch number as an alu prop will drop some engine rpm.
An ss prop is heavier than an alu prop so don’t use a solid hub one but one with a torque hub kit installed, this dampens some when the gears engage.
An ss prop is not so forgiven to the engine or prop shaft as an alu. prop when hitting something under water and are more expensive to repair or replace.
