Stainless Steel Products – Why Are They So Popular?
There are a multitude of different products that are made of stainless steel that are available for consumption worldwide. Examples of products that stainless steel is often used to manufacture are tools, hardware, cookware, tiles, sinks, bins, welding and many more. Stainless steel is commonly used in building structures as it is resistant to stains, corrosion and rust. Structures that can rust have to be replaced or repaired frequently resulting in extra cost. Stainless steel has more chromium present than carbon steel and is a far better alternative, carbon steel rusts swiftly when exposed to oxygen or water. The rust (iron oxide) speeds up corrosion by forming more rust itself. Stainless steel creates a thin layer of chromium oxide that blocks rust from reaching the internal structure of the metal.
Stainless Steel Worktops
Worktops made of stainless steel are an incredibly attractive method of using this material, and for this reason these surfaces are becoming increasingly popular for interior designers and homeowners. Due to its antibacterial properties, stainless steel is an ideal material for use within a cooking and food preparation environment. The material also works well visually with other materials for example; wood. Unfortunately stainless steel does collect scratches, but generally this is not seen as a real problem, particularly as it can be polished or simply left matt. The material is also heat resistant, making it very useful when cooking with hot pans and dishes. Finally due to its waterproof quality spills and accidents are of little issue.
Why Are Stainless Steel Products So Popular?
It is an obvious benefit that stainless steel is so resistant to corrosion. When it was invented in the early 1900s it proved a breakthrough in steel production. Steel is also highly hygienic and is well suited when needing to manufacture products that need to be cleaned often and thoroughly, i.e. food surfaces or hospitals. It is also very easy to clean, by simply wiping it down with liquid soap. It is also popular because it is high strength and low weight, vitally important in many products. Stainless steel products are often good value for money because of their longevity, for example stainless steel cutlery would rarely have to be replaced. Many people use stainless steel products because of their visual appeal; smooth, shiny and clean.
Stainless Steel Products are Recyclable.
Stainless steel is famous for for being robust; yet despite this the material is highly suited for recycling. Usually the surface will have only accumulated a small amount of damage and would therefore be of a fairly high value and quality for repurposing for use as another product. The product is 100% recyclable without changing any of its properties. This immediate recyclability plays a role in the sustainable progression.
