why is there moisture on my carpet underneath my cardboard and plastic storage boxes?
my carpet is on a slab foundation. the boxes can be under the bed or just sitting out in the open and it still gets wet. i don’t have a water leak its been checked. its been going on for approximately four years. i’m continually having to pull out boxes sprinkle w/baking soda carpet powder and let it sit for a few hours and then vacuum. i don’t know if putting vinyl down would be the only way to alleviate the problem.
moisture is seeping thru the concrete and condensing on the bottom of the plastic box.
If you really want to stop it permanently then you will have to get everything off the floor (meaning remove the carpet etc. and apply a sealer to the concrete.
They sell a product called Drylock or Drylok that will work well on bothe cement floors and walls.
If that is a bit too drastic for you then just keep those containers off the floor entirely.
By the way,,,you are getting moisture everywhere on the floor. Its just that its evaporating as it goes thru the carpeting on all the other areas. And you probably just don’t notice it.
