What features should I look for in a gas trimmer?

What brand is best. Husqvarna, Stihl, or Echo? I also have a small patch of moderate brush to cut a few times per year. Also, I’ve seen a ads before for a string replacement that looks like a chain with sharpened knives on the edges. Has anyone used anything like this and if so, is it a good replacement for string?

Be careful when using new attachments, they can be dangerous if not attached properly.

Depending on the size and thickness of the brush, a gas trimmer (assuming you mean something like a weedwacker) may not be enough. There are walk-behind brush hogs that work very well, and are self-propelled.

When selecting a trimmer/weedwacker be sure to keep in mind the weight. Depending on your arm strength, using a weedwacker can be very tiring. Be sure to pick one out that you can lift and handle comfortably.
