It sounds like you have a 686. To be sure, swing open the cylinder and look on the yoke of the frame. It’s the part that is covered in front of the cylinder when the cylinder is closed. I have a 686-1 I bought used (6 rounds shot plus the rest of the box of 50) in 1984 for $240. It will always be in my family.
