Your thoughts on FoodSaver machine…?
I am thinking about purchasing a FoodSaver vacuum machine. They are kinda expensive but I notice I do throw allot of food away that goes bad in the fridge. If you have one would you share your thoughts on it. Most important is was it worth the money to you? Thanks!!
I love my FoodSaver! It is absolutely the kitchen appliance that I use most often — except maybe my coffee maker.
It is kind of expensive, but it’s worth it.
Besides using it for things like cheese, lunchmeat, left-overs, etc., my favorite thing to do with is is ground beef.
I buy ground beef in 5-pound packages. I spend a Saturday morning browning it all up. Sometimes I add garlic and/or onions. Sometimes I don’t. Then, I divide it into one-pound portions. I put each one-pound portion in the bags and put them in the freezer. Then, when I want to make chili, spaghetti sauce, Hamburger Helper, etc., I just grab one from the freezer, defrost it and use it.
I have purchased many accessories for mine over the years. I have FoodSaver brand canisters which I use to store my coffee, tea bags, flour, sugar, etc. I have a couple of the bulk canisters which I mostly use to store cereal. I have the small round canisters which I use to store left-overs. I have a couple of square ones that I’m not sure are still available. And, I have the marinator which allows me to marinate meat in minutes. I also use this for strawberries. I cut the strawberries, put in a little sugar, seal it up using the FoodSaver, and the sugar gets into the strawberries and draws out the juice. I end up with a VERY easy WONDERFUL very healthy treat.
I also have the wide-mouth sealer, which allows me to store stuff in wide-mouth mason jars.
I don’t use the bags as much as I thought I would.
The only thing that I ever bought that I didn’t really like and don’t use are the FoodSaver® Sandwich and Snack Containers and FoodSaver® Lunch and Leftovers Containers.
I am not a gourmet cook, and I don’t have a LOT of money to spend on food. I purchased the FoodSaver when I had the extra money, and I have purchased the accessories over the years the same way. I’m not sure if I’ve spent more on it and its accessories than I’ve saved on food over the years, but it saves me money on a day-to-day basis.
Hope this helps!!! Good luck!!!
